Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Jorge Luis Nieves, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Jorge at Ft Eustis VA with friends Nava, Pissolato, Kieth Smith, and myself, Bob Martin

We attended Army Transp Sch Helicopter school at Ft Eustis. We were both stationed at 317th Air Cav RVN in '68. I was stationed at HHT, and Jorge was at C Troop (I believe). Nava, Kieth, Jorge and I hung out together most of the time, and went to Wash DC together. Jorge flew as an observer on a light observation helicopter. One of my duties at Squadron HQ was casualty reporting for the 317th. It was a sad day when I saw his name come across my desk. I had just seen him maybe a week before his aircraft went down.
