Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Ted saved my life when I was a child and this is a remembrance of that day.

Ted and his family were my neighbors at Custer AFB, Michigan in the early sixties. As I was in grade school, his children and I were friends. From Ted, I received my love for scuba diving and have enjoyed that hobby for the last 35 years. In the summer of 61 or 62, Ted saved my life in a lake on Custer AFB. I was swimming out to a raft and lost my energy. I went underwater several times. Finally, I went under for the last time and moments late, he raised me from the water and swam back to shore with me. I would like to find his family and let them know about this, as they may not know. Ted was a strong and modest warrior. In 1971, I entered the US Military Academy, but did not go to Vietnam, as the war was over by 1973. I have always been drawn to Vietnam, even though I never served in the war. I have lived in Vietnam for the last 7 years and this is now my home. I would wish for Ted's family to contact me by email [email protected] Thank you for this chance to say something about a hero that I always think of.,

Regards

Michael Doyle
