honoring you....

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

My Namesake, my Uncle John

Uncle John, while I was born after you passed I will carry your name and all the stories mom told me until my last day. I promised her I’d never enter the service because after she lost you, she never recovered. I’m too old to serve now but I will always be grateful for your sacrifice despite having lost so much never having you in my life. Mom and dad are with you now on the other side, as one day I will get to join you all and finally meet you. Until then, much love and peace.
