Ground Casualty

SP4 Lamar McLeod was an Ammunition Specialist serving with the 46th Ordnance Company, 191st Ordnance Battalion, 54th General Support Group, Army Support Command Cam Ranh Bay, 1st Logistical Command, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. At 9:30 AM on October 14, 1970, McLeod was recreational swimming at a reported unauthorized beach area on the Hon Tai peninsular, seven kilometers east of the Cam Ranh seaport in Khanh Hoa Province, RVN. He was 75 feet from shore when he got caught between some rocks and drowned. His body was recovered. McLeod’s death occurred the day before his nineteenth birthday. He had been Vietnam only three weeks. Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You died at 18 years of age, one day before your 19th birthday. I am 74 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.
