do not stand at my grave and weep....

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Thank You

Dear Sgt Donald McLean, Thank you for your service as an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist. The 52nd anniversary of the start of your tour is later this month. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Yesterday was the 75th anniversary of the Treaty that ended WWII. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of SGT Donald K. McLean

SFC Richard B. Garrett, SGT Donald K. McLean, and SP4 Gerald R. Carr were Armor Reconnaissance Specialists serving with K Troop, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry. On February 7, 1969, they were conducting a dismounted reconnaissance patrol in Binh Duong Province, RVN. SFC Garrett was leading a platoon through an area of dense vegetation when they came upon a well-concealed enemy bunker. Garrett took the point position and approached the enemy fortification in order to search it. Several enemy soldiers hidden in the bunker threw two hand grenades at the Americans, wounding Garrett. Refusing medical attention, he directed his men in an assault upon the hostile position, killing two enemy and capturing one. Despite his wounds, they continued their mission and discovered another hostile position. With SGT McClean and SP4 Carr, the three assaulted the enemy fortification. Before they could overrun the position, another fragmentation grenade was thrown, wounding all three. Garrett was killed when another detonation occurred. McClean and Carr were also killed in the engagement. Garrett was awarded the Silver Star for his actions and Carr and McClean the Bronze Star.
