Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Thomas Howard Bergren, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Brother Tommy, you departed so soon

Yes, your life ended far too soon. You are remembered fondly as a wonderful brother and wonderful person. You did accomplish so much. It is sad your development and potential for greater accomplishments ended so abruptly while you were still in your early twenty's.

So very proud of you, Tommy including your sacrifice for these United States .

Wonderful & kind young man

I worked and became friends with Tom, when he was hired for the college student employment program at the USPS. His friends Eric & Sydney worked there, too. When Tom left for the military, we wrote to each other...when he came home on leave, we spent precious time together. I cherish his memory, This gentle giant of a man...so young and sweet...never to be forgotten by anyone who ever knew him.

In Honor of this One Precious Life

Still you come to me in dreams: 22, trim, facial hair, wearing those moccasins

you wore to Mexico in '65.

It will be our 50th year since high school graduation and 45 years on this May 11th

marking your passing. A son

of San Lorenzo, you have your

name, Thomas Howard Bergren,

etched into a monument as a

'Son of San Jose'. Your early death has served to remind me not to waste time

and question how I use this one precious life. Forty-five years of mourning your loss and counting.

A great young man

Tom and I were friends and graduated together from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California in 1963. I remember Tom well as a wonderful friend with a great sense of humor. If only he (and many others) had survived ... he would have been a tremendous father and family man.
