It's another Memorial Day "Bent".........

...and it's been 54 years plus since that day we carried you out of that blown up bunker. I think the first guy to help me get you out was Mendez. Then a couple others from our squad brought the stretcher. Then running, yelling "Corpsmen!", "get outatheway!", "hang on Bent!"....the 4 of us never ran so hard..or yelled so much. Just another Sept. Day at Conthien-1967

honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from David Courson is especially poignant. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us....

Memorial Day, May 25, 2020

Dear LCPL Thomas Howard Benton, sir.

This year, as every year, our American Flag looks majestic as it snaps to attention in the breeze, as if to return the salute of all those who have served and who are serving. Two Red, White, and Blue Memorial Day wreats, one to the left and one to the right, remain there during this very special Memorial Day holiday.

Remembering you, those you served with who didn't make it home from the Vietnam War, and all who died defending this country.

With respect, sir.

Tom was my best friend.

Tom was my best friend when we were both stationed at MCB, Kaneohe, Hawaii in 1966-67. We trained together, surfed together, went to church together and went to Vietnam together. He was an incredible man and an awesome brother. When I learned of his death, it changed the course of the rest of my life. When I returned from Vietnam, I told the story of Tom Benton to literally thousands of people across the US. I'm eternally grateful to you, Tom. I thank God for you. I look forward to seeing you in heaven. Semper Fi!
