Remembered
DEAR PRIVATE BENTON,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS A FIELD ARTILLERY BASIC. ARTILLERYMEN WILL ALWAYS BE SPECIAL TO ME. IT IS 2017, WHICH MAKES IT FAR TOO LONG FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE.. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE.

My brother
What people should know about you is that you volunteered for the Army. You chose artillery because you always liked the big guns. You were stationed in Germany and gave that up to volunteer to serve in Vietnam because you were tired of war games. Your mission and purpose were clear in your young mind, and you were happy and where you wanted to be when your life was taken.
Why God chose to call you Home forty-six years ago today is something only He knows. Time has not made your passing any easier nor any less painful for those of us left behind. I couldn't put a number on all the times in my life when I paused to think, "If only Chuck could be here..."
