Very random

When I was 15, I took a week long trip to Washington DC with a school group. On one of the days, we visited the wall. Overwhelmed by the number of names, I spoke to a veteran who was walking along the wall and asked him if he could give me a name of someone he knew whom I could look up in the book and find on the wall. He gave me Richard's name. After finding it, I spent some time at that panel, I took a picture of it and went on my way. Now 23 years later, I still remembered his name and randomly searched it on the internet. It was surprising to see pictures of him and so much information, including the fact that he was from the county next to where I grew up (Delaware and Chester Counties) My parents still live there so I may visit his grave the next time I am home, only about a 1/2 hour from their house. Thank you for service Richard and you are not forgotten.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Richard Vaughn Myers, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
