Ground Casualty
SP4 Allan C. Benson was a cannon crewmember serving with D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 4th Artillery, 9th Infantry Division. On May 12, 1969, SP4 Benson was at FSB Schroeder, located along Highway QL-4, five miles south of Cai Lay in Dinh Tuong Province, RVN, when the base came under a Viet Cong mortar attack. One of the enemy rounds landed on the breech block of the 105mm howitzer that Benson worked. Fragments from the round struck Benson, fatally injuring him. Remembering
You and my brother were both killed in the same mortar attack in May of 1969. I was introduced to your name this past year (2017) when someone you served with in Vietnam contacted me about my brother, Gary Greiner. It is hard to describe my feelings 48 years later, but definitely honored to be able to post on your wall. I miss my brother like I am sure your family misses you. I wish things could have turned out differently. So comforted you will not be forgotten. Blessings!

The greatest brother in the world
Allan was my brother, and we were very close. I miss him still every day, after 47 years. A terrible loss for my family and me. I can't help but wonder what it would have been like had he not been taken from us. I honor his memory and am very proud to have known him. Rest in Peace, my beautiful brother.
