Uncle George

I never knew my Uncle George. I didn't even have a good picture of him until I saw this one. I wish I had had a chance to get to know him.

A Friend Remembered

George Bennett was one of my best friends in Albany, GA. He lived with his Aunt Anna Mae Craft across the street from us. I was in high school at the time, and George was one of the funniest, warmest people I have ever known. I loved him for the person that he was and could have become. He was so proud when he joined the Army. He came over and told us he was going to Germany. I thought he was safe...until word came while I was at the University of Georgia that he had died in Vietnam. I still miss him and think of him at odd times. I wish my children could have known him and laughed with him as I did. He was a "Hawkeye Pierce" type of person - always laughing, but compassionate and caring and serious when there was need for it. Thank you, George, for being a strong and fondly remembered piece of my teen years. I will always love you and remember our friendship!

Love, Kathy
