Remembering My Best Childhood Friend

I was only 12 years old when i met you. You were very good friends with my brother Jimmy. That's how we met. You had a crush on me, and you wood go the the creek in Guffy Hollow, and find me turtles, and every time i see one i think of you. You gave me so many that our barn was full of them. I laugh when i think of that, and cry cause i miss you so much. I wish things would have been different between us. Cause i think you would have still been around and had that dairy farm that you wanted so much. I can see you now milking those cows, following your dreams. I still blame myself for you leaving, i just wish i would have cared as much as you cared about me. Things would have been different, that's for sure. My only regret is not being able to see you before you left, you never told me you were enlisting. I'm sorry for breaking your heart and i hope you have forgiven me. Love you and miss you, my best friend. Love Nan

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Donald Charles Bennett Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
