My Best Friend

Dennis, hardly a day goes by that I don't remember our friendship growing up, knowing each other since we were in the 3rd grade, going into the Army together on the "buddy plan", staying together in the same unit until I was wounded and just over two weeks later you were killed trying to help the rest of your platoon. I wish you were here, so we could reminiss the many stories of what we shared before and during the Army because not many people understand what we saw and did. I also miss your bother Nick who would call often and talk with me about you over the many years after you were gone. It still bothers me I can't talk to him. He always wanted to figure out a way that you could have survived to day you died. I can't believe that you have been gone, now over 57 years ago. Here's hoping I can see you done the road and we can share a drink or two.
