Thank You

Dear PFC William Monfore, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Your 54th anniversary just passed, and that is when I researched you, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Veterans’ Day is this week. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Ground Casualty

PFC William D. Monfore was a rifleman serving with Headquarters & Service Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On November 3, 1966, PFC Monfore was at the 3/9 Marines Battalion Headquarters area in the rear part of Da Nang Air Base in Quang Nam Province, RVN. At the time, Monfore was serving as the driver for the Commanding Officer of H&S Company. While at morning formation, a M14 rifle carried by another Marine accidentally discharged. The errant round struck Monfore, causing a fatal thru-and-thru wound of his left abdomen. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and information provided by Jerry Branson (April 2019)]

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC William David Monfore, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
