Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL John George Bellanger, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Finally!?

I believe I finally have a name to put to a face in an all too vague memory. John came to our unit as a fresh faced young man, like we all were then, as a radio operator from our artillery battery, Fox 2/12.

Over the years, I could not remember any details that were needed for a search, but recently a cross reference was discovered and I now feel John Bellanger was the Marine I have tried to remember.

John was sent out on what was supposed to be a routine day patrol, but they were attacked and it turned into a two-day firefight.

John, even though it has taken almost 40 years to find your name, you were never forgotten and your sacrifice will always be remembered.
