Dear PFC Gerald Lee Milbrodt, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor Gerald.

Gerald, 'Jerry' as he was known to family and friends, was born in Akron, IA. and he lived on a farm with his parents and 2 siblings. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Sleepy Eye, MN. and small town life in the 50's.

Jerry was a good and gentle soul who loved all creatures. He was a frequent visitor to the kind hearted local vet who would patch up the injured creatures Jerry would bring to him.

At an early age, he had a unique talent for drawing. Mostly cartoon characters and later more sophisticated chalk drawings, sculptures, etc.

Jerry loved school and would become Salutatorian

of his class of 1965. he could also be quite the comedian and jokester.

After Jerry's death our father wrote a letter to Jerry's company commander. Many years later a book 'Back from War' was written in part because of the letter.

My dear brother, we are proud of you, love and miss you!

Gerald is buried at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye, Minn. PH
