Inspiration
Eddie has been an inspiration to me through my Dad's stories and those of the other people who have spoken of him to me as I searched for information on his life. You were so brave, and I can only hope to some day be as brave as you were. You were a good scout and a good friend to my father, and this part of the Moniz family treasures your memory. Rest well, my cousin, knowing that you are never forgotten.

Eddie Mello was a Role Model
I am 52 years old now and still often reflect back on our Boy Scout Troop Junior Scoutmaster, Eddie Mello. He was an Eagle Scout. Eddie was a few years older than me, and I used to admire how resourceful and skilled he was as a scout. He personified everthing that a scout represents and was the best kind of role model for the other scouts in the troop. Yes, he truly was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. He was a high school athlete and a very popular student. Eddie was a source of pride for his parents, his friends, his fellow scouts, his school, and the entire town. He was the kind of guy who really would have made a very positive contribution as an adult in society. It's a loss to us all, that he never had that chance. Eddie is gone, but will live forever in our minds. God Bless!
