Remembering Daryl

Daryl was ten years older than I, his youngest brother was one year ahead of me in school. Given the age difference, I didn't know him very well. From what I knew he was a very friendly guy, much like his two brothers who I did know.

Thank You

Dear PFC Daryl Meidinger, Thank you for your service as a Medical Corpsman with the 1st Cavalry. Thank you for the lives you saved. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Another summer is coming to an end. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

What to say?

I'm not sure what i need or should say here. I was a Medic in B Company also with Daryl. I was covering his Plt and mine at the time he came into out unit. It was either the 1st or 2nd day he was in the field that they went out on this ambush that got him and two others killed. I've often thought that I should have been the one going out with them instead of him, since I had the experiance and he didn't. Will never know if that would have changed anything or not? The one thing that it would have changed most likley is Daryl would be alive today and maybe I wouldn't be? But we will never know that will we? After many many years I did track down your brother and we exchanged mail several times and I told him all that had happend and how his brother had taken my place and all. He wrote me back the best letter telling me that it was all Gods will and how Daryl was at peace and I wasn't in any way to blame for what happened that day. I hope he knows how much that meant to me and now how much I am at Peace with it also. We all did our very best over there and it's just by the Will of God that some of us returned and others didn't.
