Wonderful Person

Bob and I attended Yankton College in the late 60s. I barely knew him. I moved to NY in 69-70. While I was on a NYC bus, Bob got on. Although he barely knew me, he greeted me, sat down beside me, and as we chatted, he told me he was going to Viet Nam in a month. That of course was the last time I saw him. He was a kind, good, and lovely person. His loss, as all others in war, is a testament to the tragedy war, loss of life, and the loss of Bob really is. I am so sorry for his family, esp. his brother, and all the people who would have shared in this fine young man's life.

Thank You

Dear Sgt Robert Meeker, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Your 75th birthday just passed, happy birthday. I researched you on the 52nd anniversary of the start of your tour. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Yesterday was Constitution Day. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Never Knew Him But I Know He Was a Great Guy

My dad didn't know Bobby personally but he met him once at a diner. He was friends with my dad's girlfriend at the time. Bobby was about to go to Vietnam and the next time my dad head about him he had been killed in action.
My father was drafted but due to his bad ankle (and the fact that he had purposely banged up his knees with a 2x4 the night before) he did not go to Vietnam.
I don't know why but whenever I go on this site I always find Bobby and look at his pictures. I've read about him and the posthumous awards he's received, he was a very brave young man.
Ken, I am so sorry for your loss and I wish I had more information about your brother. He made a lasting impression on my dad even though they only met once, and after all these years his name is still remembered.
