Ground Casualty

PFC Mark S. Behrent was a medic with Headquarters & Headquarters Troop (HHT), 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry, I Field Force, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. On April 29, 1970, six weeks after arriving in Vietnam, Behrent sustained a critical head injury from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot while in the vicinity of Song Mao Air Filed in Binh Thuan Province, RVN. Following treatment in military hospitals, he was medically evacuated in a coma to the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in North Chicago, IL, where he expired early on the morning of June 16, 1970. Behrent was nineteen years old. Thank you PFC Mark Sylvester Behrent for volunteering to serve our country in a dangerous time, in a dangerous job, in a far and dangerous place. He served as a Medical NCO (Combat Medic) and was assigned to the 2ND SQDN, 1ST CAVALRY, I FIELD FORCE.
