honoring you.....

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. That you died so close to your end of tour is especially tragic. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us….

Fellow Hilltopper

I remember Tony from our high school days, mostly through sports. He was a great guy with a friendly personality and always had a big smile. He was also an excellent athlete in multiple sports. As a Vietnam veteran myself, I appreciate his service to our country and pray for his family and friends.

Onalaska...

You lived a few doors down from us in Onalaska, WI. You and my brother Jeff were best friends. We moved to Minneapolis and you and Jeff eventually lost touch. But very coincidentally you both ended up joining the Army. You both ended up in the 1st Infantry Division; Both in recon units in Vietnam. Your paths could have so easily crossed many times in Lai Khe but tragically you were killed in the spring of 1969. Jeff was later killed in September of 1969 at Fire Support Base Gela. I can only imagine the total shock and pleasant surprise you may have had running into each other in a war zone on the other side of the world! I wish it could have been! -Larry Johns

Thank You

Dear Sgt Anthony Markewitch, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Flag Day just passed, and the birthday of the Army. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

SGT Anthony Markevich Jr.

SGT Anthony Markevich was the son of Tony and Syivia Markevich Sr. Close friends of my parents Lawrence and Gen Karl. My dad Lawrence and Tony Sr,belonged to the Onalaska WI National Guard. They were CWO 4’s in the National Guard. My parents had a great friendship with the Markevich’s. The night we received the news. I had just been Confirmed. Anthony’s parents and mine where supposed to go on a trip together the next day. I can remember that night as if I was still there in my living room that same night. The phone rang my dad answered and the sound of his voice told us something wasn’t right. The moment dad hung up the phone dad told us the news. The sadness about Anthony we all felt. We prayed for his family. We also prayed for the safe return of all our military men and women. I Thank SGT Anthony Markevich and all other military men and women for serving to keep our country free. Janet Karl Kotek
