Childhood Neighbor of Sammie

I visited the gravesite of Sammie yesterday, May 28,2023. Sammie lived down the road from my family (the Cooks). Sammie was the same age of my sister, Marilee Cook, I was two years younger than Sammie but remember him well. I attended his funeral and remember the 21 gun salute. I also viewed his name on the wall many years later. I hope others remember his sacrifice as I do; I don’t know if his family is still around or not but just want them to know that I remember him! Remembering Uncle Sammie

The times I spent with you teaching me to play mumbly peg using your new pocket knife. Listening to you practice the harmonica. Watching you milk those cows in the morning , before coming in for Grandmother’s delicious biscuits, memories that do seem like yesterday.
We watched you board the bus for Camp Pendleton, that January morning ...bound for Vietnam . Rest In Peace
