Hometown Friend
I, like my close friend, George I. Kidwiler, grew up with Johnny Mahoney in the small town of Bakerton. I had just returned from Okinawa in June 1966 after serving with the 29th Army Band enroute to Ft. Bragg, NC and recall sitting with Johnny on his front porch discussing the military and its roll in Vietnam. After my discharge in 1967, I moved to Michigan to attend college and subsequently taking up residence there. Unbeknownst to me, I found out later than Johnny was drafted and ended up losing his lift in Vietnam in August, 1969.
Johnny made the ultimate sacrifice and I miss him to this day. God Bless you, bro! I hope to see you again on the other side.
