Thinking of you.

Although I never met you, for I was only 3 months old when you passed, I heard stories about your courage from my mother is was your sister. It is because of you and your sacrifice that my family can have the freedom that so many around the world do not. Thank you Uncle from the bottom of my heart. Your memory lives on.

Thank You

Dear Sp4 Fortunato Luna, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. 45 years ago today was the last day of battle – Mayaguez Incident. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of SP4 Fortunato Luna Jr.

On January 29, 1966, a U.S. Army helicopter CH-47A (tail number 63-07913) from the 133rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (ASHC) was on a resupply mission when the forward transmission froze inflight about five miles north of Phu Cat in Binh Dinh Province while carrying a slingload of JP-4 (fuel). The mechanical failure caused the aircraft to crash, impacting the ground in an inverted position. There were no survivors. The lost crew included aircraft commander CW2 Frank Roop, pilot CAPT William R. Hardin, crew chief SP6 Charles J. Bair, gunner SP4 Richard E. Arnold, and crewman SP5 Claude T. Turner. A single passenger was also killed, SP4 Fortunato Luna Jr. [Taken from vhpa.org and armyaircrews.com]
