Thank You

Dear Lcpl Geoffrey Lukey, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Sunday was Mother’s Day, but like none other. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Ground Casualty

LCPL Geoffrey J. Lukey was a rifleman serving with the 3rd Combined Action Group (CAG), Combined Action. On October 6, 1969, LCPL Lukey was on patrol in Thua Thien Province, RVN, with his platoon when a fellow Marine slipped and fell into a washed-out portion of a stream. Lukey attempted to rescue the Marine when he himself slipped and was swept into the river by a fast-flowing current. Rescue attempts were made by other members of the patrol without success. Lukey’s remains were not recovered until three days later when a Vietnamese fishing on the Song Phu River discovered the body floating downstream. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
