honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

I was there when you fell as my shield.

I was platoon leader on the radio calling for mortars, arty, and napalm when Red crawled up by my side firing his M-60 machine-gun. Shoulder to shoulder we lay. He died next to me as my shield. I owe him my life, and I love him.

Thank You

Dear Cpl Marvin Luerkens, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Sunday was Mother’s Day, but like none other. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
