Ground Casualty

SSG Harold A. Beaverson Jr. was a radio equipment repairer assigned to a communications platoon serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 4th Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. Prior to the Brigade’s deployment to the Central Highlands in June 1967, the 173rd had been operating near Bien Hoa Air Base, sixteen miles northeast of Saigon in Bien Hoa Province, RVN. On May 31, 1967, Beaverson was fatally injured in a traffic accident when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a military vehicle. He was 33 years old. Beaverson was a Korean War veteran with fourteen years of military service, his first three with the Marines. He was in his second tour of Vietnam when he passed.
