Remembering An American Hero

Dear Major Joseph M Loughran Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

What a Marine Officer should be.

I was stationed aboard the USS Canopus AS-34 as a Radio Man and would watch this fine Officer lead his Marines through morning exercises. He would always do more than his men. On runs through the swamps of South Carolina he would always run farther and faster. Always in the lead.

I would watch him and say to myself that if ever I had to go into battle I wanted to be with him. When he was transferred all his Marines were saddened.

Today I just learned of his death. I am saddened by the loss of this great leader.
