Ground Casualty
PFC Merrill V. Beasley Jr. was assigned to A Battery, 1st Battalion, 8th Artillery, 25th Infantry Division, his military occupation specialty labeling him a “pioneer,” a soldier employed to perform engineering and construction tasks. On February 1, 1967, he was killed in an explosion in his quarters. An investigation into the incident resulted in PVT Larry L. Hart confessing that he had booby-trapped the door of the troop billet for a “thrill.” PFC Beasley was the victim. Hart claimed that he didn’t target him and only knew Beasley by sight, having been in the company for just three days when he committed the crime. We Will Remember
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear CPL Merrill Van Beasley, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

thank you
My name is Sarah Ruff and I live in Gridley Illinois. I am part of the Gridley High School Posting Project. I want you to know that your commitment to protecting our country is greatly appreciated. You set a wonderful example of patriotism and bravery. The young men and women that are now serving our country can look at what you’ve done and be inspired. Inspired to do what is right and to stand up for what they believe in. They will be reminded to be courageous and fearless when they hear about you. I know that the young men and women respect and honor you. In many ways you are considered a hero, and I will always honor you. The people living in the United States will always respect you.
