Comrade in arms

James...I know its been some thirty five years this year, but I never forgot you. Yes, I'll admit names tend to get lost in memory, but I will always remember you and our brothers who fell in that ambush. I was one of the lucky ones who survived the wounds. Rest with God and Peace.

Thank You James

I never met James Thomas Lane. On this Memorial Day weekend of 2001, I went to the Virtual Wall site and started to read the names of soldiers who died. It was sad to see all the names but I did not know any of them. I then came across the names of three soldiers. The only link I had between these three men, were where they grew up and the day they were born. December 6, 1946. I never went to war. I was raised in Lynbrook , New York, got married in 1972, had two sons and never thought I did anything important. After all these years, these three men made me understand what I truly had. It was men like these who died for our country and for people like me. They made the ultimate sacrifice for their family and friends. I know I cannot thank them but I will remember them.
