Ground Casualty
1LT Peter J. Lacey III was a Platoon Leader serving with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry, 4th Infantry Division. The 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry was an armored cavalry unit with attached infantry personnel. On November 21, 1969, Lacey’s platoon of armored personnel carriers (APC’s) was patrolling around an abandoned Montagnard village in Pleiku Province, RVN. Lacey dismounted his APC carrying two grenades which he planned to drop in a well. When he pulled the pin on the first grenade, it discharged prematurely causing the second grenade to also explode. Lacey suffered fatal blast injuries in the incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and information provided by Roy Surratt (July 2001) at thewall-usa.com]
