What an impression you made on this little girl

My siblings and I met you when you worked at the House of Pizza in Downer's Grove. It was owned by my Uncle Red, Aunt Inez and Aunt Barbara. My dad worked there on the weekends as a 2nd job, as well as my "Uncle Jack" (Aunt Barbara). Aside from seeing you at the Pizza House, you had come to our house several times. Whenever you came to our house, you would play with us. You were always so much fun. I remember very clearly that I was with my daddy in the kitchen when he got the call. When he hung up, he had tears streaming down his face. This is one of my strongest childhood memories. I was so upset seeing my daddy cry and I tried to comfort him, even though I didn't know what the phone call was about. Later on, he told us that you had gone to Heaven. I didn't understand it then....but I fully understand it now. Rest in Peace, Fred. I will never, ever forget you.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Fred George Kovarik, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
