THE WALL OF FACES

Dear Uncle Jon, the last time I actually wrote to you I was just a boy, maybe 8 years old. Tonight I was watching Band of Brothers, I couldn't help but think of you. Men were defending the line when the Germans began shelling the area. So many good men just like you mortally wounded.

I can still remember the day those two men came to our door to tell your wife, Aunt Mary that you were gone. To this day it still tears my heart out in anguish. I think of you whenever I'm watching shows like this. You were such a presence in my life when I needed you the most.

Be my guardian angle and watch over me and my family, Defend us in battle against the wickedness of evil.

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

As a young teenager my Aunt Mary brought Uncle Jon into my life. I remember him as mentor who loved loved life and us. He was a compassionate man with a full life in front of him. His service to this country was astounding and his presence went on for years as it has now and forever. I will never forget the love you showed me and the wisdom with the compassion you carried to everyone. God Bless You

To me and my cousins you were uncke Jon. You were friend and our hero both in life and after. You will always be remembered for your ultimate sacrifice. And for the incredible life you lead. Upon your death there was a huge hole left in our hearts and lives. We thank God for the short time we had with you.
