Ground Casualty

PFC Ronnie A. Kerr served with A Company, 27th Engineer Battalion, 45th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam Engineer Command. Kerr’s enlisted MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) was “Pioneer,” the title given to soldiers employed to perform engineering and construction tasks. Operation Lam Son 719 (February 8 – March 25, 1971) was the last major engineer operation of the Vietnam War, and the year 1971 saw the departure of nearly all engineer troops. The 45th Group, however, continued operations in I Corps. Kerr’s unit, the 27th Engineer Battalion, was located in the Hue–Phu Bai area in Thua Thien Province, RVN, and supported the 101st Airborne Division in its diminished role patrolling and sweeping the rocket belts along the coastal region. On April 14, 1971, Kerr died near Camp Eagle, the headquarters for the101st, where it was reported he took his own life. He was twenty years old. We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
