Constant Reminder

This was a haunting purchase--I attend North Georgia College & State University, where POW-MIA bracelets are a tradition among the Corps of Cadets (Army ROTC). I didn't look at the names before I pulled one off the shelf; I only realized SSGT Kennedy's name when I put it on. I am currently attempting to trace my lineage to see if we are related. I am saving up for a trip to visit his name on the Wall, hopefully soon. This bracelet haunts me because he was reported MIA at age 19: I am 19. It makes me realize how precious every service member's life is, because it can be so short.

I remember a carefree day at the Joey Green Field...

I was a little girl. My big brother Billy let me tag along once in a while, I was not big enough to really play with him & his friends - They were eleven and twelve - But I liked many of the things they liked and Billy was a good big brother. When I got to be eleven or twelve, however, sisters weren't so cool anymore.

Billy thought he'd go frog hunting on that warm summer afternoon with his bow & arrow. I didn't know these were his plans. We went back to the creek and he told me stories of Quicksand and Bull Frogs. When he announced his intensions to spear my slimy friends, I found ways to throw rocks into the water or trip him at just the right time. I was trying not only to save the frogs but also to keep my brother from being angry enough to take me home.

He called off his safari when he realized I wouldn't stop my six-year vision of environmental protection. So, we took a hike down the road to the "Joey Green Field". A sandy playground where the town gathered every summer evening for baseball, hotdogs and a turn on the swing or 'dizzy-table'. That's when his friend showed up - Lesal's brother, Artie and that dreamy Jimmy Kennedy boy. Billy picked me up and put me up in a tree so I wouldn't be under foot while they played Army. I was scared some, but stayed quiet, enjoying my good luck of being allowed to hang out with the Big kids, and trying to prolong the adventure.

But as the boys played I realized they were getting farther & farther away from my branch. I could not escape on my own. I was up too far - I paniced - I started to scream.

Billy, Artie & Jimmy ran back. Billy and Artie laughed .... But Jimmy .... he pulled me down. He brushed me off. He even tugged my pigtail out of the back of my tee-shirt.

Thats it...
That's all I remember of that day.

Not Forgotten

I have not forgotten you. I chair the Adoption Committee for The National League of Families of Prisoners of War and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia. We will always remember the 1,889 Americans still unaccounted for in Southeast Asia and the thousands of others that lost their lives. We will not stop our efforts until all of you are home where you belong.

We need to reach the next generation so that they will carry on when our generation is no longer able. To do so, we are attempting to locate photographs of all the missing. If you are reading this remembrance and have a photo and/or memory of this missing American that you would like to share for our project, please contact me at:
