Remembering you..

Don I met you one night in a bunker during a rocket and mortar attack. I didn't know you well and only saw you a few times after that. I remember you showing me an Army newspaper with you pictured in your helicopter and an explanation of your job. (Probably the Ivy 4th Div. paper) I remember you saying "Geez, I hope my mom doesn't see this, I told her that I didn't do anything dangerous." You were using the downwash from the blades to part the tall elephant grass to expose hiding VC. You'd then call in the gunship lingering high above you. Unfortunately you were also taken under fire by those you'd exposed. I know the Army didn't know exactly what brought your chopper down but I always wondered if that's what happened...you parted some elephant grass that last flight and took immediate fire...hence the reported "popping sounds." You were a good man doing a dangerous job...very sorry you didn't make it home. Tom Salamone (a young Lt. when we met)

Thank You

Dear Lt Donald Kemble, Thank you for your service as a Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander - Helicopter Pilot. Your 52nd anniversary is in 8 days, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. We are approaching Thanksgiving. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Donald William Iv Kemble, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
