Thank you for your service

My father was in WWII and served in Roosevelt's Raiders in Iwo Jima and Guadal Canal. He never spoke of the horrific sites he saw, and he never got a medal, but he came home for which I am grateful.

You are real hero, given the bronze medal, but you did not come home. You made the ultimate sacrifice. As an American I am grateful for your service.

RIP soldier

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Kenneth Ray Jones, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

You Are Not Forgotten

I found your name while searching for another Kenneth R. Jones, who my husband had served with in Vietnam.

We never knew each other, but we were both born the same year in Waco, Texas, and so I wondered--unlike me, did you grow up in Waco? Did our families know each other? Were our grandmothers friends? Did my mother attend high school with your parents? Did Dr. Traylor deliver us both?

From that moment on, I felt a connection with you.

And so, when I attended the Teach Vietnam Teachers Conference, I sought your name on the wall, and made a rubbing to remember you by.

You are not forgotten.
