Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You were born one day after me and died at 22 years of age. I am now 73 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

Silver Star Medal Award

CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant John Robert Jones, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with Task Force 1, Advisory Element, Vietnam Training Advisory Group, on 4 and 5 June 1971. Sergeant Jones' actions, without regard for his own safety, reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.

Bronze Star Medal Awards for Valor and Merit

Sergeant John Robert Jones was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary gallantry in action. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Merit for his sustained meritorious service. He served as a Special Forces Qualified Infantryman and was assigned to TF-1 AE, MACV-SOG, 5TH SF GROUP.
