Thank You

Dear Sp4 Benjamin Jones, Thank you for your service as an Airborne Qualified Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It's almost Columbus Day. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

The Quiet Warrior

I remember when Ben arrived at LZ Jane with Charlie Cole and the 22 other replacements with their new uniforms and boots, they looked strangely out of place but not for long. From December 27th to this point we (A Co., 1/502 Inf, 101st Abn Div) had been decimated to the point of no longer being able to function as an infantry company. Ben and the other new guys were pressed into service immediately and did a good job, we loss one of the replacements 2 hours after he got off of the truck. We loss Ben one night a month later when he was on ambush, I don't think he knew what hit him, I believe 4 of the guys with him were wounded, some wounds you can't see, one of wounded has never recovered mentally from that night. I didn't know Ben that well but after 50 years I'd recognize that innocent face anywhere, he was quiet and about the business of being a good soldier......So Young!

Paratrooper's Prayer

The Paratrooper's Prayer - Chaplain Terry Austin,
Advanced Airborne School, Fort Bragg

Heavenly Father, hear my call; for through the sky I will soon fall. Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door, I pray for your will, nothing less, nothing more. One thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four . . . My canopy fill 'fore I count any more. Give me courage, in the midst of my fear, to enjoy your world's beauty from way up here. From jumpers and obstacles float me clear, and safely to the drop zone help me steer. Feet and knees together, preparing myself to land, never more aware that I'm secure within your hand. Guide and help me, as I quickly get to my feet, to conquer every obstacle 'til the mission is complete. In our Lord's name I shall forever pray, because I'm Airborne and Prayerborne all the way. AMEN
