I was with Warren that day.

We were in the same platoon and Warren took my place on a mine sweeping operation with Sgt. Jammie Franklin that morning. The two were ambushed along with several others in the platoon, and Warren and Sgt. Franklin where killed by a sniper. I have always felt terrible about it because I feel like Warren was killed in my place. Warren was a great guy and a good friend and I still owe him five dollars he loaned me about a week before he was shot. My wife and I recently celebrated our 50th. wedding anniversary and when I think of our years together and of our two grown son's, our grandchildren and great grandchildren. I remember that Warrens sacrifice made those years possible. Thank you Warren for those years, I've tried to be a good father and to put them to good use.

Photo remembrance of Warren Dean Johnson

This photo is Warren’s 1964 senior class picture at St. Louis Park High School. The picture was provided by Herb Reckinger Jr. of Cottage Grove, Minnesota with help from Warren’s sister, Lynne Baardsen, and her sister-in-law Kathy Baardsen. Thank you Herb, Lynne and Kathy!

Warren, it is with great humility, pride and honor that Herb, Lynne, Kathy and I post this remembrance for you and upload your photo so that your memory and the sacrifice you made for your country will never be forgotten and to ensure your photo will be displayed on your birthday each and every year when the Education Center is completed. You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many after all these years. Thank you Warren for being who you were and for all you did. We live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you that answered the call to duty.

You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor Warren.
