Dear Sarah Lynch,
Hello. I have seen that your uncle / family member is Douglas Wanner Barnitz, a fellow veteran. Also, that he has fought in the Vietnam War. I am a fellow eighth grader that went to Washington D.C. and has seen the Vietnam memorial. While at the memorial I have seen Douglas W. Barnitz on it. You are getting this letter to be informed that many people have seen his name and are thankful, I just wanted someone, like a relative, to acknowledge that.
I want you to know he will always be remembered by many people, besides family members. He is also very much respected for what he has done. I am very sorry to mention that he is no longer with us. However I and many other people are still thankful for him and his service.
He must have been a great guy and very thoughtful too. There are many people that not only remember him, but remember memories with him. I have read many of those memories and they all seem like events that will never be forgotten. Besides that, if you are still in contact with his sister, Sandy, please tell her that I am moved by how she never forgets his birthday and is always sending a remembrance on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
Overall, you and your family must be extremely proud. Also, I thank him one last time. There are really no words to describe how appreciated I am that there was someone like him that has served for our country.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Douglas Wanner Barnitz, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
