THE WALL OF FACES

Dear SGT Michael Steven Jett, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

I was crushed when I heard you had been killed. I had to leave campus and sit in the bus that I drove from Laton to Reedley College every day. It was hard to imagine you were gone. How did it happen?...

Later that year in December, I was drafted into the ARMY myself. However, three days before I reported to Ft Ord I had managed to get into the Air Force ROTC program. And for a bribe of an extra $100 bucks a month... I flew a Jett for the next 25 years. After two more years of college, one year of pilot training, Three months of every kind of survival training and four months of learning how to fly a KC-135 Tanker. I was ready to go and do what I was traind to do... Finally in December of 1975 I was on the Island of Guam getting ready to go to Vietnam. On the day of the deployment the war in Viet Nam was declared over. I never went in country. I was part of an "Air Bridge" that refueled airplanes leaving Vietnam for the US.

In 1990 I went to Washington DC on a TDY. One of the guys wanted to go to the "Wall" but I declined. For what purpose? I had sort af forgotten about that war. Well he talked me into going saying it'd take just a minute to walk by and I could say I saw it. Hmmmmm Two-and-a half hours later I was just ready enough to leave. All was well until I found Mikes name on the wall. I couldn't handle it. I cried like a baby (kinda like I am right now). I then searched and found my cousin Randy's name. I made rubbings of both of my friends names and have them in my "airplane" cabinet... never to forget again. I've been to the "Wall" three times since, Awesome every time. I looked for Mikes parents to give them his name, but no luck. Anybody know any where abouts of any of Mikes family? My E-mail is below. Please pass it forward and ask them to contact me. Thanks!

I remember mike as a young man. We both rode the same bus from school in Laton. I remember him being a real nice guy. I think about him often. I am grateful for the sacrifice he made upon the alter of freedom for his country, family and friends. May God grant him eternal rest and peace.
