Remembering An American Hero

Dear SN Marc Steven James, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Thank you Mate

Although we never met personally, I want to thank you Marc Steven James, for your courageous and valiant service, faithful contribution, and most holy sacrifice, given to this great country of ours!

Your Spirit is alive--and strong, therefore Mate, you shall never be forgotten, NOR has your death been in vain!

Again, thank you Sailor, for a job well done!

FAIR WINDS, AND ETERNAL PEACE MY FRIEND

Tribute to Marc

I was assigned to the same boat crew as Marc. We were crew members on a river boat designed especially for river warfare called an ASPB (Assault Support Patrol Boat). The boats were so new that some of the crews got to Viet Nam before their boat. We were one of those crews and were assigned to other boats in our River Squadron until ours came in country. Marc was assigned to a "Tango" boat which was used to carry troops from the 9th Infantry Division to and from operation sectors. It was on such an operation that Marc's boat came under fire during an ambush and while manning a machine gun position, he was killed by an RPG round fired from the bank. Marc was a very likable person with a lot of friends and he liked everyone he knew. In 1995 I went to Washington D. C. with my wife and son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter and visited "The Wall". I couldn't help but cry as I stood by the panel with Marc's name enscribed on it, because Marc never got to have a loving wife or son or daughter-in-law or granddaughter. I think of him often and wished many times that the whole war could have been erased. He was one of over 50 thousand wasted lives in a useless war. May God bless Marc James and his family.
