Ground Casualty

SP5 John L. Barnes was assigned to U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam Special Troops, Army Headquarters Area Command. While serving in Vietnam, SP5 became ill and was hospitalized on December 21, 1967. He was evacuated to Japan for what was thought to be malaria. It was later determined he was suffering from Hodgkin’s disease. From Japan he was sent to Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington D.C. for treatment. Barnes died there on January 19, 1968. He was 24 years-old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
