I found one of your I.D. Tags (Dog Tags) on Nui Cua

I was a Naval Gunfire Spotter assigned to Lima Co., 3rd Bn., 7th Marines during all of February and most of March 1967. "L" Company was assigned to retake Hill 163 (Nui Cua). When we arrived we found long sections of wire that were connected to various explosive devices. The Viet Cong had some tunnels, that were well hidden, but we blew them up with Viet Cong still in them. It was late in the afternoon when we got the order to dig in, and as it is with most Marines we dug deeply. However I saw a bomb crater and the soil being soft, I dug in and started fixing dinner. That is when I found a jungle boot with your I.D. tag in the laces. Several years ago I spoke with Lt. Ron Benoit , your platoon commander who was very happy that we had found your body on the hill and sent it out by chopper several days after we found it. He blamed himself for your death until I explained that that hill was covered with command detonated booby traps and neither you or him cause the explosion that killed you.
