I will always remember my brother Bob:

I am 5 years older than Bob. He was a native of Missouri and loved the Ozark Hills. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the fiddle and always had a dog. Upon graduation from Gainesville, Mo. H.S. in 1953 he joined the Air Force. Every time he was home for a visit was occasion for another "music party".
He was stationed several places in the U.S., plus Okinawa, Greenland, Turkey and Thailand to name a few. He once said he had been on every continent except one. While stationed at Sewart AFB, he was aboard the first of 7 C-130 Hercules cargo transport planes to land at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica and the first to break the established flight time record from there to the South Pole. The giant ski-equipped cargo transport made the first South Pole landing in history for an aircraft of such size on Jan. 28, 1960. He also worked on the DEW line (Distant Early Warning).
At the time his AC-130 was shot down over Southern Laos, he was on his second tour of duty in the Vietnam War and was stationed at Ubon, Thailand. His address at the time was in California.
He married and had 5 children, Mike, Ricky, Jimmy, Laura & Chrissy. Now he has 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. It has been difficult for our Mother, nearly 90, to give up hopes of his return. We all love and miss him so much. His sister, Frances Thompson.
