With love and respect from your great niece
Hi Uncle Johnny,
I never met you but I’ve heard many great things about you. Thank you for fighting for us and our freedom. I hope you are happy wherever you are. My nana says hello and misses you so much.

June 6, 1969 Ambush
I was in same firefight in which John was Killed. I was riding behind his platoon when we were ambushed as we manuevered through a small hamlet. We were attempting to linkup with some of our sister companies who had made contact with an NVA group of undetermined size. After 3 hrs. of fierce fighting my group managed to extract itself from the ambush zone. For many years I was unaware that John had perished in the initial attack as my group got separated from his during the battle. I am proud to have served with John and will never forget that day. R.I.P my brother
