THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS A GRUNT. I HATE THAT YOU PASSED SO CLOSE TO YOUR BIRTHDAY. SIGH. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOU. THANKSGIVING DAY IS APPROACHING, AND WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE....

I met Gary while in high school thru a classmate and close friend of mine who was from Gary's home town of Evan. We shared June 16 1948 as our birthday .I will never forget the day while also serving in Viet Nam when I opened the New Ulm Journal and read the tragic news about Gary. I will always remember you and Thank You for the ultimate sacrifice.

Dear SP4 Gary Lester Barnes, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
