Final Mission of CAPT Michael L. Hyde
CAPT Michael L. Hyde was a U.S. Air Force pilot serving with the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 8, 1966, he piloted a USAF North American F-100D Super Sabre (#56-3063) on a strike mission over enemy targets in South Vietnam. His F-100D aircraft was observed to make a dry pass over a target and then assume position for a napalm pass. Hyde radioed he sighted Viet Cong on the ground and immediately thereafter the aircraft crashed at an approximately 10-degree angle. It was believed the Super Sabre had been hit by enemy ground fire. Efforts to locate the crash site and recover his remains following the crash were unsuccessful. In 1990, the Vietnamese government repatriated remains to the U.S. which on April 16, 1991, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) positively identified as those of Hyde.
