The woman who posted asValerie Sue Shubkagel

I had posted a long while ago and always wanted to contact Jerry's family. Jerry was in my squad and I was with him the day he was killed. I can tell you this he did not suffer. I would also like to say that Jerry was probably the most liked person not only in my squad but in the whole platoon. I will leave my you my email in case you want to talk further about him. I am the one who posted the picture and I have a few more as well as some great memories. I where one of two KIA bracelets everyday and his is one of them. Every Veterans Day I go to the Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington DC and visit the panel and spend time thinking about him. My email is [email protected]

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Jerry Dean Barksdale, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
